TONSILLITIS

The tonsils are normal lymphatic tissue that is covered by cells of the respiratory epithelium and is located at the entrance of the pharynx. It is a natural barrier against microbes, viruses and allergens that enter the oral cavity every day.

A basic measure to prevent viral and streptococcal tonsillitis is to avoid close contact with sick people, especially during epidemic periods. If contact with patients is necessary, precautionary measures must be used (gloves and disposable masks) and special attention must be paid to washing hands well with soap and water or with special antiseptic hand solutions.

• Do not use antibiotics unnecessarily, without medical advice in any case of tonsillitis. Not only will you not get better faster, but you may also suffer from inflammation more often.

• • If you have had multiple confirmed bacterial tonsillitis (>>3 times each year for three years, more than five times each year for two years, or seven times in one year) it would be a good idea to have your tonsils removed.

• Do not smoke.
